BHUM didn’t begin in some sterile lab with venture capital knocking on our door. It started in Matt's [our co-founder] kitchen in December 2023, surrounded by the holiday chaos and first inspired by a question neither of us could shake. "How can we craft a product that truly delivers on the lofty promises made by $90 serums and multi-step skincare routines—but at a price that's fair and without any harmful chemicals? A holiday gift worthy of those curious enough to try."The goal was, and still is, simple; organic, premium, toxin-free skincare for our family and friends. Nothing fancy—just thoughtful ingredients and a whole lot of love.

 

But here’s the thing about a couple of hyper-focused, mildly obsessive ~ health nerd ~ types like us: we can’t leave “good enough” alone. That first recipe ignited a rabbit hole of research, testing, and refining that consumed our lives in the best possible way. What had become our “personal stash” quickly turned into something we knew we shouldn't keep to ourselves. By the Fall of 2024, we were connecting with sustainable farms, getting schooled on cosmetic chemistry, and investing in equipment that would allow us to scale with quality for a consistent consumer experience—all to create products that lived up to the rigorous standards of the people we love most [Matt's opinionated, tough-loving sister; she also moonlights as Jamie's supportive girlfriend].

 

BHUM became something bigger than a science project; it became a promise. We pledge to take the frustration out of choosing products that are safe, effective, and thoughtfully made. Fulfilling our end of the bargain, unapologetically and with ease, we create mindful products intended for  daily use—serving as the foundation [or welcome addition] to any natural skincare ritual. We ditched the industry standards after realizing our personal criteria demanded far more. If it isn't good enough for us, we would never claim it's good enough for you.
